Palliative Care Research at Sobell House
Palliative care is the care of people with any progressive, life-limiting illness. Its central tenets are effective symptom management, and psychosocial support of both patients and their families/caregivers. The Palliative Care Research Group is based at Sobell House.
Our clinical research programme sits within both the University of Oxford, within the Experimental Medicine Division of the Nuffield Department of Medicine, and the Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals NHS Trust. The Sobell House research group and its programme have strong links with Harris Manchester College at the University of Oxford, Oxford Brookes University and other academic centres both at national and international level (see our research page on Collaborations). Sobell House is a World Health Organisation Collaborating Centre for Palliative Care.
The research group is grateful to the Sobell House Hospice Charity who offer financial support to our infrastructure while individual research projects are often externally funded.
